Yousician

If you ever learnt an instrument as a child or have been a parent of a child learning an instrument, you know that practice is not always an automatic love of the learner. Even if your goal is to be the next greatest superstar it is still hard to find motivation to practice at times. Especially when you're plateauing!
Yousician may not increase the rate of mega guitar stars pumping out of our loungeroom factories but it will definitely make learning a bit more engaging and perhaps speed up that early learning.
I have played guitar now for over 20 years and I am enjoying the free version on an almost nightly basis. In some ways it's the perfect game for me, it combines my love of guitar with the challenge of a game situation.

2 Great Programming Apps for Kids

I started on Pong and Breakout and remember the feeling of accomplishment when the code all came together to make a game. Instead of just being a consumer I was suddenly a creator...

With 21st century learning well entrenched in our schools and a dedicated and focused digital technologies curriculum in place it's a good time to get your kids looking at code. Code is everywhere and a part of so many things we do in life now. It sits in the background running the apps, programs, software, televisions, light systems, garage doors, car alarms, atm's and so much, much more.
Computers, the internet, iPads and all the devices we have come to know are now settling into their place in society and are now the norm. The world now and ahead is needing more IT capable people and programming is at the forefront of it all.

Attributes by Math Doodles

The constant quest to find engaging Math apps continues!
This little beauty will keep the kids busy for a little while. Attributes has a really simple and comfortable feel about it with its hand drawn like graphics. Yet it covers many math areas and a wide array of skills. It quickly progresses into harder and more complex problems but scaffolds well to make the journey fun and addictive.
If you have never come across the original Math Doodles I also recommend you have a look. Check out the video on the right below for the original.

Motion Maths: Pizza

I can not rave about these apps enough. The kids are lining up in my class to use them. They compete for best pizzeria or cupcake business and are using financial maths language without even realising. My own 5 year old and 7 year old are using the motion maths apps but the quick fire math in Pizza is a little difficult for both. They love the game play and the discussions, team play and sharing have been an absolute pleasure.
The Motion Maths apps are clever apps that remind me of some of the early enterprise games that came out on the Commodore 64 in the 80's. They are engaging, fun and actually addictive. The concepts, expectations, thinking skills, economic issues and organisation skills that a user experiences and deals with along the way with out a doubt make this a very educational series of apps. These actually opitimise educational gaming as the student user will probably forget that they are doing Maths and learning.

Check out Motion Maths: Cupcakes if your child loves Motion Maths: Pizza.

Quiver

Believe me please. Just give this wonderful app a go. Your children will be amazed and want to do them again and again. If that's not enough then get the kids to show your technologically unsavvy parents (if you have some). My boys showed their Grandma and her reaction was priceless, she finished declaring that I am a magician.

4 Great Maths Apps That Are Well Worth The Money

All four of these Maths apps are awesome for repetitious learning. They are great apps to have family, class and small group competitions. It seems to be that Apps are quickly moving away from the free cost for quality but these apps are well worth the money.

Art Set & Art Set Pro

Art Set also has a Pro option that increases the  range of tools available from pencils and pens to brushes and pastel. In addition, Art Set Pro includes tools for blending. Plus, it has a decent color mixer and customizable palette. All fantastic features. And, even more fantastic is how the tools are accessed. All of the tools are neatly tucked away in what feels like a tiny digital wooden art set.

This is a great (but long) tutorial for anyone who wants every possible tool that Art Set Pro provides. I hope it helps you become the 21st century Van Gogh.
